Nearly 70 families, including 160 children, had a merrier Christmas thanks the members of the Avondale’s Avenue District Block Club and volunteers who hosted their annual Christmas Holiday Gift-Giving Festivity, during which AADBC provided toys, games, books, crafts and gift cards to families in the Block Club District and community.
The event was held at the Avondale Business Center at 3635 Reading Road on Saturday, December 21, from 12 to 1:30.
Members and volunteers helped to sort out hundreds of toys that were generously donated from Ronald McDonald House Charities. AADBC officials expressed their gratitude to Ronald McDonald House Charities officials Jennifer Goodin, executive director, and Shawnie Dukes, community development manager.
Volunteers and residents worked several hours to separate a room full of toys by gender and age, then per family list, as they filled the orders.
“To know we are making a difference and creating happiness for deserving families is a true blessing” says Sheila Holmes Howard, President of AADBC.
AADBC officials are Sheila Holmes Howard, president; Leah Dennis-Ellsworth, vice president; Michael Ellsworth, facilities coordinator; and Shariah Peck, communications coordinator.
