Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is the second-best children’s hospital in the country, according to a “U.S. News and World Report” analysis that surveys 189 hospitals. The rankings involved compliance with 1,100 evaluation metrics, according to the magazine
This year’s ranking is historic for the local hospital in that it had been placed at third in the nation for the past seven years.
In addition, Cincinnati Children’s ranks first in the pediatric specialties of cancer and gastroenterology/GI surgery care.
Chief Operating Officer Steve Davis said in a news release the jump in rankings reflects the dedication of the hospital’s employees.
“We’ve reached number two in the nation because we put kids first,” Davis said.
In addition to ranking No. 2 overall, Children’s was ranked among the top five pediatric hospitals in the following specialties: Cancer, No. 1; Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, No. 1; Nephrology, No. 2; Neurology and Neurosurgery, No. 2; Urology, No. 2; Diabetes and Endocrinology, No. 3; Pulmonology, No. 3; Orthopedics, No. 4; AND Neonatology, No. 5.
US News and World Report created the rankings by collecting data from clinical surveys sent to nearly 200 hospitals.
