The CCJO’s All-Star Big Band Combines with an All-Star Gospel Choir for One-of-a-Kind Event

On February 23, 2020, the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra will present a concert that promises to not only thrill the ears of its listeners, but to lift their spirits as well. The music is inspired by the classic 1963 recording “We Gotta Shout!” that featured the legendary Clara Ward and her gospel singers along with the Dukes of Dixieland. The album was widely-recognized for the cultural barriers it broke down and the concert being planned by the CCJO and the all-star gospel choir aims to do the same in Cincinnati.

The CCJO is led by artistic director Eric Lechliter and the choir will be led by highly regarded Cincinnati-based gospel choir director A. Michael Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham is also the Minister of Music at New Jerusalem Baptist Church and he leads the Urban League Mass Choir. He is also a previous leader of the CSO Classical Roots Mass Choir. These gentlemen have collaborated on this project before and this latest concert promises to bring the audience to their feet in an expression of pure joy.

The CCJO is presenting this concert at the Corinthian Baptist Church, 1920 Tennessee Avenue, in Bond Hill. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2020 opening with a performance by the Little Miami Chorale.
