Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), the largest provider of affordable housing in Hamilton County, extends the moratorium on eviction in an effort to provide housing stability for local families. CMHA agreed to extend the moratorium past the HUD deadline of July 25, until Sept. 1, 2020.
“The pandemic has caused major challenges and changes for families in the country and in our community. The extension allows families to tap into locally developed resources to ensure they can cover their past-due balances and reduce the amount of eviction cases proposed for court. Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority understands what families need now is support. This eviction moratorium will strengthen the community by supporting families that seek help through relief programs,” said CMHA Chief Executive Officer Gregory Johnson.
Also, Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority, through CARES Act funding, is offering up to $1,200 as a signing bonus to property owners with properties in CMHA’s jurisdiction, which includes all of Hamilton County. The incentive is an expression of appreciation for new and current property owners who partner with CMHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV).
Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority won the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authority Award ward of Merit for the agency’s Economic Impact Strategic Plan. The NAHRO Awards give national recognition to the achievement and innovation of agency members throughout the country.
CMHA submitted the Economic Impact Strategic Plan in NAHRO’s Community Revitalization category, which includes programs that have a positive economic impact on a neighborhood or city, that is balanced growth, economic development, job creation; creative financing, public/private partnerships, mixed-use developments or neighborhood preservation.
CMHA is using federal tools to transform the agency’s portfolio and the economic plan sets goals that ensure success.
