I know what you’re thinking, no ma’am. Here’s my out thought, waxing has become increasingly popular for many reasons. There are also a lot of educated waxers who will make your first or hundred visit as comfortable as they can. One of my favorite places is at Pure Beauty Skin Bar. The owner, Sylvia Brownlee is very knowledgeable in skincare so she’s going to make sure everything is done right and correctly. It’s also a Black owned business, so double win! If you have never had a wax before, it’s not the most pleasant experience but if you have someone who knows how to do it quickly, it helps a lot!

So why get a wax? It’s all about your preference and what makes your comfortable. I think every woman should experience a wax at least once in their life, who knows you may like it.

Before you go get a wax here are some of MY tips:

  • Don’t shave 2 weeks before you go
  • Don’t have caffeine before your appointment as it heightens the pain
  • Exfoliate so the hair is easier to be pulled
  • Take some ibuprofen if you need to
  • They do have numbing spray, but I don’t think it helped (good luck)
  • Don’t let the wax punk you

Here are Sylvia’s (the pro) Tips before you go:

  • Don’t shave in between waxing
  • You need at least 1/4 of an inch in length
  • Keep in mind you are more sensitive when on your cycle
  • Don’t drink alcohol before getting waxed, wait until after, could cause more bleeding
  • If you suffer from ingrown hairs lightly exfoliate regularly
  • Wear breathable clothing

Sylvia shared some aftercare tips as follows:

  • You should re-wax Every 4-6 weeks
  • Avoid the sun
  • Don’t over exfoliate
  • No hot yoga no spray tan for the next 48 hours

Make sure you visit Pure Beauty Skin Bar and schedule your wax!
