Cincinnati, OH– The Cincinnati Public Schools Board has failed our community. We entrusted the board to keep our students, our teachers, and our staff safe during a dangerous pandemic. The board has violated this trust and so we will return to their doorstep in a covid-safe caravan protest. It is clear that this pandemic has disproportionately targeted Black and brown and Indigenous communities; it is because of this fact that we must call this “back to school” plan what it really is: an act of racist violence against our most vulnerable communities.
The protest will be held on February 8th at 6:00 PM at the CPS School Board Building (2651 Burnet Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45219), 30 minutes before the board meeting begins.
This protest is organized by Cincinnati’s Young Activists Coalition.
In order to keep our community safe, there will only be one speaker before the caravan begins driving around the CPS School board building in a planned route.
Protesters are calling on the CPS school board to stop the current plan to send children back to school and work with teachers, students, and parents to create a plan that has the consent of the aforementioned parties and adheres to previously accepted COVID-19 procedures.
The caravan will move in a planned route directly around the building for the duration of the Board meeting. The event is open to the public. Organizers anticipate a crowd of 50 cars. Media may want to arrive at anytime from 5:45-6 PM to witness the beginning of the caravan.
