Lula “Mae” McGinnis of Cincinnati, who was employed by Shillito’s Department Store, died August 18, 2022. She was 91.
She was born to the union of John and Fannie Bowman on May 1, 1931, in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
She joined the union of marriage with Napoleon McGinnis Sr. on April 1, 1951, by Father Joseph Stier of St. Francis Parrish.
They later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1953. She joined St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Clark Street, then later St. Joseph Catholic Church on Linn Street. After moving to College Hill, she joined St. Clare Catholic Church on Cedar Avenue.
She was employed by Shillito’s Department Store in 1966. The store changed its name to Shillito’s Rikes, and then became Lazarus. During the time there, she made many friends who became best friends, just like family.
Mrs. McGinnis loved to travel, play bingo and purchase scratch offs. Lula was an exceptional cook who loved to feed everyone, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her soap operas and sports. Lula was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be truly missed by all.
She was a devoted member of her Parrish and cherished by all.
Mrs. McGinnis was preceded in death by her mother, Fannie Bowman; father, John Bowman; brother, John Bowman Jr.; and son, Napoleon McGinnis Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Napoleon McGinnis Sr.; son, Robert McGinnis; grandchildren, Treymaine Proffitt, Patrice Logan (Derrick), Anthony Williams (Evelyn), Mahogany Morgan, Cameron McGinnis (Ashley), Michael McGinnis (Adriana), NaTasha Armstead, Raaqim Young, and Hakeem Williams; great-grandchildren, Angela Whitterson, Nionna Byrd, Noah Byrd, Nyla Byrd, Anthony Williams, Jr., Isaac Avery McGinnis, Bodni Paxton, Gabriella Ingram and Ermias Whitterson; sister-in[1]law, Maxine McGinnis; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
