April is Minority Health Month and health is an important factor in your Beauty. National Minority Health month is the time to raise awareness about health disparities that continue to affect racial and ethnic minority populations and encourage action through health education, early detection, and control of disease complications.
In this issue, we will focus on self-care. Remember, your mental health matters just as much as physical health. Here are five tips for a healthier lifestyle from me:
1. Implement Self Care
This is self-explanatory, Make sure you take some time out each week just for YOU. This could look like various things, if Prosecco in bed is not for you 🙂 It could be a trip to the spa, a walk around the block, a few minutes of quiet time – whatever brings you peace, do it.Â
2. Get Moving
During this pandemic there has been a lot of sitting and eating – am I right? Let’s start getting into a routine of moving the body. This could be a virtual workout class or a walk around the block. Grab a workout partner for some accountability or just be your own motivation. You got this!
3. Incorporate Healthier Foods
I know, I know – healthy foods. But listen, the saying, “you are what you eat” rings so true. When you put good food inside of you, you feel and look better. Try to incorporate new healthy foods into your diet throughout your week. Swap out the pop for water. It takes a few weeks to break bad habits but once your body adjust – you’ll see some big changes.Â
4. Up Your Sleep Game
A good night’s rest is important for a healthier lifestyle. I’ve started incorporating a before bed nighttime routine that includes lavender – which helps you sleep.
5. Know Your Health Status
Make sure you routinely see your primary doctor for checkups. Minorities suffer from more health issues than any other demographics. If a health issue runs in your family, make sure you take the proper steps to keep yourself healthy and aware of your health status. Knowing early can be life changing.
