Overview:
The findings of the Cincinnati Public Health Department's assessment reveal alarming rates of chronic health conditions in the city.
After delving into the findings of the Cincinnati Public Health Department Community Health Needs Assessment 2023, it’s time for a wake-up call. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, chronic health conditions are alarmingly prevalent, with nearly half all adults affected. Heart disease and cancer alone claim nearly half all U.S. lives, and the situation isn’t any brighter when we focus on Cincinnati.
In our own backyard, chronic diseases like obesity, cardiovascular issues, and cancer are glaring concerns. Obesity and high blood pressure grip more than a third of Cincinnati’s population, painting a distressing picture of our collective health.
But here’s the thing: we can change this narrative. It starts with us, the millennials of Cincinnati, taking charge of our health and wellness. Grab your accountability partner, your planner and let’s get to work. Let’s join forces and commit to prioritizing our well-being. Together, we can make a difference. Take the first step toward a healthier future today. Join the movement, and let’s march forth toward a stronger, healthier Cincinnati (Pun intended)!
Three simple tips to kick-start your journey toward a healthier lifestyle:
- Move Every Day
Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a yoga session, or a quick workout at home, aim to get your body moving for at least 30 minutes each day. Not only does exercise improve physical health, but it also boosts mood and reduces stress. Decrease the Netflix and chill- instead go for a hike or link at the gym.
- Mindful Eating
Pay attention to what you’re putting into your body. Opt for whole, unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Limit your intake of sugary drinks, processed snacks, and fast food. Eating mindfully not only nourishes your body but also fosters a healthier relationship with food. Instead of happy hour — try making a new recipe at home or a friend’s house. This month I want to do a charcuterie experience … with friends & family.
- Prioritize Mental Health
Take care of your mind as well as your body. Practice stress-relief techniques such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or journaling. Make time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation, whether it’s reading, painting, or spending time with loved ones. Remember, mental health is just as important as physical health. Decrease your social media scrolling & buy a new journal — Be Journal: Robinson Collins, Rosalyn: 9781329895898: Amazon.com: Books Here’s one to check out. (Its women’s history month so I am Celebrating Rosalyn Collins-business owner & author … cheers to you Girl!!)
This month, let’s march forth toward a healthier future for ourselves and our community. Together, we can make positive changes that ripple beyond our city limits. It’s time for Cincinnati to rise up and prioritize our well-being. The journey starts now. Will you accept the call to action ? #513call2action
