A special ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of “More than Meets the Eye,” a featured exhibit of the FotoFocus Biennial and a highlight during BLINK, was held in September on the Purple People Bridge. The exhibit, curated by the nonprofit A Picture’s Worth in collaboration with Summermusik, Kentucky Refugee Ministries, and MakeTank Inc., as well as other community partners, showcases the photos and stories of immigrants and refugees who call Greater Cincinnati home, including:
• Raj Mehta (Provost’s Office) and Flavia Bastos (College of DAAP) from the University of Cincinnati,
• Cervilio Amador from the Cincinnati Ballet
• Israel Escamilla and Mariya Foley from Procter & Gamble
A total of 32 of more than 50 immigrants featured in the project will be featured on panels that turn the pedestrian bridge into an interactive art gallery. Panels highlight themes of resilience, peace, and hope, and will be on display through Nov. 3, 2024.

The event included:
- Welcome from representatives from A Picture’s Worth and Summermusik.
- Cincinnati Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney read a proclamation from the City.
- A representative from the City of Newport also spoke at the event.
- This exhibit is an opportunity to explore and celebrate the diverse stories of those who have found a home in Greater Cincinnati. Through powerful imagery and narratives, “More than Meets the Eye” invites the community to connect with the experiences of immigrants and refugees, emphasizing the universal themes of resilience, peace, and hope.
