This month, Closing the Health Gap is putting connection first — launching a bold new direction that makes healthcare more personal, practical, and powerful. On Saturday, April 26, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Woodward High School, the Center for Closing the Health Gap will debut “Speak Up for Health – Ask. Act. Advocate,” an interactive experience designed to spark real conversation, connect neighbors with trusted medical professionals, and empower participants with practical strategies for taking charge of their well-being.
Rather than hosting a single large-scale gathering like the Health Expo, Closing the Health Gap is shifting to smaller, community-focused experiences that prioritize intimate dialogue, cultural relevance, and actionable outcomes. The April 26 event is the first experience launching this year, with future events focused on men’s health (June), women’s health (September), and family health (October).
“This isn’t simply a change in format — it’s a strategic shift in how we engage communities around their health,” said Renee Mahaffey Harris, president & CEO of the Center for Closing the Health Gap. “We’re creating intentional spaces where people feel seen, heard, and equipped to make informed choices. That’s how sustainable impact begins.”
What to Expect:
- Panel Discussion (11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.): Hear from medical experts about the most pressing health issues impacting our communities, ask local healthcare professionals questions, share experiences, and gain tools for self-advocacy.
- Healthy Lifestyle Circuit: (12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.): A 10-minute wellness rotation with a personal trainer, yoga instructor, nutritionist, and life coach.
Each participant will receive a free Health Advocacy Toolkit, filled with resources to help navigate the healthcare system, communicate confidently with providers, and advocate for you and your families’ health needs. Space is limited. Register now on Eventbrite.
This event is presented in partnership with the Cincinnati Medical Association, Black Nurses Association, UC Health, The Christ Hospital, Bon Secours Mercy Health, the City of Cincinnati, and Hamilton County.
