Mayor Aftab travels to India upon personal invitation from Dalai Lama

CINCINNATI – Mayor Aftab was personally invited to India with a cohort of mayors for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. During his visit, the mayor plans on inviting His Holiness to Cincinnati as part of ongoing efforts to put our City on the map as a flourishing, global destination.

The mayors and public figures joining Mayor Aftab on this trip include:

  • Pauline Cutter, Mayor of San Leandro
  • Greg Fischer, Mayor of Louisville
  • Bill Peduto, former Mayor of Pittsburgh
  • Libby Schaaf, Mayor of Oakland
  • Lonnie Ali, Philanthropist, widow of Muhammad Ali

“I am honored to take part in this incredible opportunity to meet His Holiness and invite him to our bold, dynamic City,” Mayor Aftab said. “Having a global leader visit Cincinnati would be huge, and as the highest-ranking elected Tibetan American in the country, my meeting with him showcases our City’s commitment to diversity and growing the City equitably.”

The mayor is frequently checking in with City Manager Long and his staff during his time abroad. He will return Dec. 7.
