“Oppenheimer” may have swept the 96th Academy Awards with seven wins, including Best Picture, but plenty of Black artists got to share the spotlight this past Sunday evening.
The first award of the night, which was the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, went to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for her performance in “The Holdovers”.
Randolph had been a favorite to win as she had previously won all of the guild awards leading up to the Oscars.

Writer-Director Cord Jefferson won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for “American Fiction.” Jefferson was also a producer on the film, which was also in the running for Best Picture.
In addition, Kris Bowers won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film for “The Last Repair Shop.”
