Harris for President

As Vice President Kamala Harris delivered the keynote remarks on the final night of the Democratic National Convention, the American people saw that she is the fighter we need to lead our country forward.

In her remarks, the Vice President spoke about her roots, raised by a working mother in a middle-class neighborhood. She showed that sheโ€™s never forgotten where she came from: The values she learned there have shaped her lifeโ€™s work of fighting for the people โ€“ from the courthouse to the White House.

She outlined a New Way Forward โ€“ her optimistic agenda that provides economic opportunity and protects fundamental freedoms for all Americans, no matter their party โ€“ a stark contrast with the dangers posed by Donald Trumpโ€™s Project 2025 agenda that would rip away peopleโ€™s freedoms and increase the cost of living. And, she rooted her optimism about the future in a deeply patriotic faith in the American people because, unlike Trump, who talks down our country, she believes in the promise of America โ€“ and sheโ€™s going to fight for it.

Hereโ€™s a look at what theyโ€™re saying about Vice President Harrisโ€™ remarks:

On the Airwaves:

On MSNBCโ€™s Special Coverage, Chris Hayes: โ€œThe way she held the room, the command, the vocal quality, the pacing, the cadence, the specificity, the authority, all of these things are extremely difficult to pull off. It’s like watching someone on the balance beam and you’re like, Wow, that’s impressiveโ€ฆshe had executed perfectly. And she executed perfectly.โ€

On CBS, Pat Brady: โ€œShe passed the commander in chief test, she met the momentโ€ฆ she talked about the right issues. I was sitting here as a Republican hearing her talk about NATO, Ukraine and the other issues typically Republicans talk about itโ€ฆ sheโ€™s had a pretty good week and month.โ€

On Fox Newsโ€™ Special Coverage, Bret Baier: โ€œThe strongest part of this speech was foreign policy, where she laid out where she stands with Ukraine, she will always stand with Israel’s right to fight for itself, but also is condemning the actions and killings in Gaza, wanting that ceasefire to come and the hostages to be released. She said โ€˜in the enduring struggle against tyranny, I know where I stand and where the United States of America belongs.โ€™ That perhaps was the strongest part of the speech, a forceful speech in which she is making the case that she is the nominee.โ€

On ABCโ€™s News Live, Donna Brazille: โ€œYou heard a woman inspired by her mother to dream big and her father to be fearless and as president she will instill that in every child.โ€

On ABCโ€™s News Live, Rachel Scott: โ€œI was struck by how much Vice President Kamala Harris really embodied that saying from her mother of not letting people tell you who you are, you show them you who are, that was a message she took to heart tonight.โ€

On MSNBCโ€™s Special Coverage, Senator Chuck Schumer: โ€œI am feeling great. I have been at every convention since 1984. This is the most joyous, the most happy, but also the most unified and the most focused on winning in November. We know how important that is to get a great program done for working families and to make sure Donald Trump doesn’t get in and rip apart our democracy.โ€

On CNNโ€™s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Sen. Cortez Masto: โ€œWhat youโ€™re seeing now and the information that’s coming out is the Kamala that I know: strong. She has the ability to lead this country, she’s capable, she’s intelligent, but she’s also compassionate, and she cares about people, and she cares about our working families, she wants to make sure everyone has that opportunity to get ahead. That’s the Kamala I worked with as Attorney General as we were fighting the big banks to help the families that were losing their homes, or protecting communities from the drug smugglers and human traffickers. How do we ensure they have every opportunity? So really that’s what you see playing out in this convention. but along with that — there’s this hope and joy that we’ve got a future to look forward to where an administration is really going to fight for our families, create jobs, grow our economy, and really address the issues that working families and individuals are dealing with right now.โ€

On PBS Newsโ€™ Special Coverage, Sen. Alex Padilla: โ€œShe is thoughtful, and tough. She will be helping people. She is ready. Truly ready to lead our nation. We can elect the first woman of color. The diversity of America.โ€

Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta: โ€œLet me tell you something. When she takes her oath of office, as she will this January, our allies will cheer, our enemies will fear, and we will have a commander-in-chief that we can trust.โ€

@GavinNewsom: Nowโ€™s the time, America. Letโ€™s make history.

Letโ€™s get out there and elect @KamalaHarris as the next President of the United States of America!

@staceyabrams: Kamala Harris is called for such a time as this. Now itโ€™s on us to meet the moment: volunteer, vote and know we deserve opportunity for all. #DNC2024

@BeraForCongress: โ€œIn the enduring struggle between democracy and tyranny, I know where I stand.โ€ She told us, โ€œI will be a president who unites us around our highest aspirations,โ€ she said. โ€œA president who leads โ€” and listens. Who is realistic. Practical. And has common sense. And always fights for the American people. From the courthouse to the White House, that has been my lifeโ€™s work.โ€
