In the first seven months of the Access to Counsel Limited Representation Pilot Program, funded by the City of Cincinnati, over 80 percent of eviction cases litigated to final outcome have been dismissed. The program, which gives tenants a same-day attorney for their first cause eviction hearing, has made 473 appearances on behalf of over 200 clients since it began in September 2024. Attorney Shannon Price meets with clients, negotiates with housing providers and their attorneys, and assists with helping each side understand their rights. Tenants are able to apply for rental assistance through the United Way of Greater Cincinnati and remain in their homes.

Initially started as a pilot program funded by the City of Cincinnati, the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Help Center is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $100,000 grant to continue the program through 2026.

Clerk of Courts Pavan Parikh stated, โ€œSupporting the Limited Representation Pilot through the Clerk of Courts Help Center was a no-brainer for us. We are proud of Shannonโ€™s work that has already positively impacted hundreds of people in a short period of time. We all need to come together to solve the eviction crisis, and I am grateful for our partners who have invested in sustaining this program for another year.โ€

The Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Help Center has been a staunch advocate for a multi-pronged approach to solving the eviction crisis in the community. The Help Center, a partnership between the Clerk of Courts and University of Cincinnati College of Law, is located on the first floor of the Hamilton County Courthouse and assists people who donโ€™t have an attorney on forms, filings, tips for the courtroom, and limited legal advice appointments.ย

Councilmember Meeka D. Owens stated, โ€œIt is critical for government and philanthropic partners to stand together when something is working well. Finding points of collaboration between those workstreams is not difficult when you are making a real difference. I am proud to say that I helped in the creation of the Limited Representation Pilot Program with the support of city administration, to know that Shannon has changed the lives of hundreds of Cincinnatians, and that many more will be helped because of this additional funding.โ€

Greater Cincinnati Foundationโ€™s mission is to connect generous people with trusted nonprofits to create a vibrant Tri-State region where every person has a fair opportunity to thrive.
