Contributed by Northwest Local School District
Northwest Local School District is proud to announce that 70 students have earned the prestigious title of AP Scholar in 2025, a recognition awarded each fall by the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program to students who demonstrate exceptional achievement on multiple AP Exams.
This year’s honorees include:
- 42 AP Scholars – scoring 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams
- 6 AP Scholars with Honor – averaging at least a 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams
- 22 AP Scholars with Distinction – averaging at least a 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more exams
The total matches NWLSD’s all-time high of 70 AP Scholars set in 2024, but with a notable increase in the highest honor—Scholars with Distinction—rising from 14 last year to 22 this year. The accomplishment continues a remarkable upward trend from 2023, when 44 students were recognized.
Expanding Access, Raising the Bar
Over the past two years, NWLSD has expanded its AP offerings with three new courses—AP Environmental Science, AP Seminar, and AP Research—and continues to open doors for younger students by providing two AP courses for 9th graders (AP Human Geography and AP World History), which began in 2020.
These achievements are closely aligned with NWLSD’s One Plan Goal of becoming a 4-Star District on the Ohio Local Report Card. Using our District Model of Instruction, we focus on challenging lessons, clear learning goals, and high-quality teaching in every classroom. Observations show that most teachers whose students earned top AP scores are meeting – and often exceeding – the high expectations set in our plan.
In addition, the district is raising the bar for advanced coursework through intentional planning and early talent development. In the 2024-2025 school year, NWLSD launched its Talent Development Program for 2nd grade students, providing specialized STEM-focused instruction to strengthen critical and creative thinking skills from an early age.
“NWLSD offers a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) and College Credit Plus (CCP) courses at each of our high schools. The increasing number of AP Scholar Awards earned by our students over the past two years from the College Board, particularly the number of awards earned with distinction, shows that our students are engaging successfully in challenging college-level coursework that is preparing them well for their pursuits beyond high school,” said Brenda Miller, Director of Curriculum. “Advanced Placement coursework is cognitively demanding and successful performance on multiple AP Exams requires discipline and a strong work ethic, in addition to strong academic skills.”
We are proud of every student who earned this recognition. View the complete list of NWLSD’s 2025 AP Scholars below:
