Fall is in the air. Mums, pumpkin spice everything, and cozy sweaters are making their annual debut. It’s a season of transition and change. Nature shows us this in a powerful way as trees shed their leaves, a process necessary for their survival and future growth. By letting go of what no longer serves them, trees conserve energy and prepare for the next season. This process reminds us of a valuable life lesson: sometimes we, too, need to shed what’s no longer serving us to step into the next phase of our journey.
But let’s keep it real — you didn’t come here for a lesson on trees. Let’s talk about you. As we head into this new season, it’s the perfect time to ask yourself: What’s holding me back? What do I need to release to step into my next level of growth? Whether it’s unhealthy habits, toxic relationships, or stress-inducing situations, now is the time to let it go.
Millennials, especially Black millennials, carry a lot — jobs, side hustle, family, community work, all while navigating a world that often doesn’t feel built for us. But just like the trees, we can’t keep growing if we’re still holding on to the dead weight of what’s no longer working.
A Plan to Release What’s Not Working:
- List three things in your life that aren’t serving you.
- Identify why they are holding you back.
- Write down 1-2 actionable steps to start reducing their impact.
- Visualize the benefits of letting them go and how you’ll feel afterward. Write what you visualized.
This season is your opportunity for a fresh start. It’s your harvest season — a time to take stock of what you’ve been working on and recalibrate for the winter ahead. In the book of Philippians, Paul tells us to forget what’s behind and press forward toward what lies ahead. Shedding old habits, mindsets, and even relationships is necessary to step into the next level of your purpose.
So, here’s the big question: What are you willing to release? Now is the time to let go, refresh, and prepare to thrive. The new season is waiting for you to step into it — lighter, freer, and ready to grow.
