Martha Alice Burr Fletcher, a Black woman of the 1920s, lived a purpose-filled life of hard work and accomplishment, becoming the first African American president of Garfield Elementary School’s PTA, a co-founder of the First Baptist Church’s Book Club, and a member of the Thomas Jefferson Monticello Society.
