Forest Park/Greenhills—Fall is full of free music at Winton Woods City Schools, and the public is invited to attend. Band Night kicked off the concert season for the district as Winton Woods Middle and High School band students performed at the football game on Saturday, September 16. Carol Becci-Youngs, color guard director at the high school, said the Marching Band Concert on Wednesday, October 25, is another opportunity to experience the songs of the football season.

“The theme is ‘Up and Down,’ featuring songs like ‘Uprising’ and ‘Boogie Down,” said Becci-Youngs. “The entire season will be dedicated to the memory of Winton Woods alumnus and four-year band member Caleb Simpson.” The Marching Band Concert will take place in the David Bell Performing Arts Center at Winton Woods High School at 7:00 p.m. on October 25.

Winton Woods High School Director of Choirs Joe Whatley, who also directs the school’s a cappella group, said there will be an a cappella concert on Tuesday, October 24, featuring a pre-show performance by the high school’s pop a cappella group Evolution. “It will be the first time Evolution will sing in a choir concert,” said Whatley. “It will be exciting to see the new combined women’s number and the new lighting and sound effects that were added to some numbers.”

Winton Woods Middle School will hold its first choir concert of the year on Thursday, October 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the school auditorium. The theme is “Love Is All Around” and will feature old and new pop songs. “This show is dedicated to the people that have suffered from tragedies,” said Craig Johnson, choir director at the middle school.

The Middle School band and orchestra will also hold the district’s first duo performance on Monday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the school auditorium. “Our concert will feature songs from around the world,” said Winton Woods Middle Band director Matthew Buhl. The 8th grade band will perform “Valley Forge March”, “Gently Touch The Sky”, and “Fires of Mazama”. Seventh Grade Band will perform “Sea Song Trilogy”, “Evening Prayer”, and “Apollo Fanfare”. The 8th grade orchestra will perform “Goin’ To Boston”, “Rockport Images”, and “Dia De Alegria”. Seventh Grade Chorus will perform “El Toro”, “Dragon Dances”, and “Sword Dance”.

Winton Woods High School’s first choir concert is Tuesday, October 17, at 7:00 p.m. in the David Bell Performing Arts Center.
