Everett “The Cork” Cork Jr., a longtime radio personality at WCIN-AM, died Sunday. October 22, 2017, in Cincinnati.
Mr. Cork revived the R&B sound of old WCIN-AM with his Classic Vibes 1480CIN.com online radio station. The Kennedy Heights resident was the keeper of the flame for WCIN-AM, the city’s first station for African Americans in 1953. He twice worked at WCIN-AM, before and after it switched to classical music on Sept. 1, 1988. Services for Mr. Cork are set for Friday, Nov. 4, at a location to be announced. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, with the service starting at noon.
Melrose YMCA will be hosting a Black History Celebration, A Taste of soul food, Wednesday February 7 from 11am to 5pm. There will be many delectable dishes and desserts to sample. Carryout will be available.
Also, Melrose hosted a community Food Pantry Monday, January 22 from 8:30 to 11:30. The event was very successful, and we distributed food to 157 people. We will be hosting another food pantry day Monday, February 26 from 9:30 to 11:30.
Mr. Gary Terry the Program Director at Melrose is reaching out to the Walnut Hills communities and surrounding areas to let the community know that Melrose is in the community to support and help the many people who live in the surrounding areas.
