Wyoming traveled to Finneytown High School for a Cincinnati Hills League conference game Friday night and walked away with a 17-point win 74-57.
Wyoming entered the game with a 5-3 record in league play, and 11-4 overall. Finneytown was looking for it’s first win in the conference, and was 3-12 overall.
The Wyoming Cowboys were led by Joey Edmonds with scored 27 points, and Evan Prater chipped in with 22 points. Finneytown placed three players in double figures, as Mike Clay finished with 20 points, Cameron Harris with 15, and Clarence Toney with 12.
Wyoming jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, as sophomore Evan Prater scored the first 6 points for the Cowboys, and then Finneytown’s Cameron Harris got rolling for the Wildcats, as the junior scored that team’s first points. That’s when the Cowboys junior Joey Edmonds got in the scoring column, knocking down two 3-point shots before the first quarter came to a close with Wyoming ahead 16-11.
When the second quarter started, Edmonds started to heat up again, as he scored to 3-point shots was finishing strong around the basket. Edmonds had 17 points in the first half, and Prater had 13 points in the first half as well, as Evan was getting his points in the paint. Senior Clarence Toney scored 6 points in the quarter to help the Wildcats keep close, as the Cowboys went into halftime leading by 17 points 41-24.
Things didn’t change much as the third quarter got started, as Edmonds scored 6 points, all by the way of the charity strip, as he kept pressure on the Wildcats’ defense. Isaiah Walker got in the scoring column with 5 points in the quarter, which came at a good time as the Wildcats were trying to get close up. The Cowboys’ sophomore Elijah McGee made some timely 3-point shots as the Cowboys closed the quarter up 59-42.
As the fourth quarter got started, the Wildcats made several runs at the Cowboys, getting the lead down to eleven points at 64-53. That’s when Prater got going again, as the sophomore scored 6 points in the quarter and Edmonds scored all of his points at the free line in the second half. Sophomore Deante Gray, also gave Wyoming a lift with his efforts on defense, and was able to get on the glass and score 6 points in the quarter.
Finneytown’s senior Mike Clay, scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, and 7 in the fourth quarter. Cameron Harris, who has a chance to be a division one prospect at 6’7’’, finished with 7 points in the half and 5 points in the quarter.
Wyoming has it hands full Tuesday as they host the undefeated Deer Park Wildcats, while Finneytown will be at home against Taylor, which is 1-7 in the conference.
