Winton Woods came into Woodward Saturday night on a six game winning streak, the team was looking to improve their record to 10-4, and they did by defeating the Bulldogs 49-48. Woodward 8-7, was trying to rebound from losing their last two games.

Winton Woods took the lead early at 4-0 as junior division one prospect Greg Tribble, who was battling a turf toe, and Jaylen Mason each scored 2 points. Then, the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard and tied the score behind Terry Durham and Demontez Cooper. Both teams went back and forth for the rest of the quarter as the Warriors took the lead by two 11-9.

By the end of the second quarter, the Warriors showed they have depth, as they had seven players get in the scoring column, led by Tribble with 7 points. Coach Redden did a good job of having his kids get the ball inside to Durham, but Terry struggled at the free line going only two for eight. But that did not stop Terry from doing other things to help the Bulldogs get a win, as he got 6 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Yet, Woodward still went into halftime down 25-19.

When the third quarter started, the Warriors stretched their lead to 9 points behind Olaide Daboiku and Rashaun Brown, who both finished with 9 points each. Sophomore Dre Lewis, and senior Hakeem Thomas made three-point baskets to help keep the Bulldogs close as the quarter came to a close with the Warriors up 37-32.

The Bulldogs out scored Winton Woods 16-12 in the fourth quarter, as Durham got going again, as the senior was finishing strong around the basket, Lewis knocked down another three-point basket. Winton Woods’ Greg Tribble made some clutch free throws down the stretch to help put the victory away.

Woodward could make only four out of 23 attempts from behind the three-point line, and eight for 21 from the free line, and only lost by one point, all to let you know the Bulldogs were there to win it.

Winton Woods will host Western Hills Tuesday night, as the Bulldogs will be at home against Shroder Friday night.
