Cincinnati Public Schools hosted a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Spencer Center for Gifted and Exceptional Students at 2825 Alms Place, Walnut Hills, which opened this year for students in grades 3-8. The magnet school serves academically talented students, providing rigorous, yet flexible, learning environments, while offering opportunities for students to study abroad. The event on February 23 paid tribute to the legacy of Cincinnati’s iconic Civil Rights couple, the late Donald Spencer and his wife Marian Spencer. Mrs. Spencer, was unable to attend, but present for a ribbon-cutting ceremony (shown above, right to left) were Laura Mitchell, CPS superintendent, Cincinnati Public Schools; Melanie Bates, CPS board member; Mike Moroski, CPS board member; Carolyn Jones, president, CPS board; a gifted student; Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley; Ericka Copeland-Dansby, vice-president, CPS board; Nina Ginocchio, principal, Spencer Center, and Spencer Center students. The room was packed with parents, Walnut Hills residents and community officials. Photo by Dan Yount
