When twentysomething Courtney D. Myrick was assistant editor of The Cincinnati Herald, she said that she was tired of hearing others refer to her generation as “lost.” She envisioned and implemented an awards ceremony to honor and highlight the many accomplishments of young stars, ages 18 – 30, who were making a positive impact on the community. The BRIGHT (Bold, Respected, Intelligent, Gifted, Hardworking Treasures) Awards Ceremony was born.

This year, six young stars were chosen by representatives from The African American Chamber of Commerce and The Cincinnati Herald in the three areas of community service, professional achievement, and entrepreneurship. The reception and awards dinner event takes place on Friday, April 27, 5 – 8 p.m. at the Anderson Pavilion, 8 E. Mehring Way. Singer Chandler Carter will perform, and DJ Pillo will keep the music  going during the pre-dinner reception and throughout the event. Sponsors include the Cincinnati Parks Board, Guardian Savings Bank, Union Savings Bank, and O’dell’s Fellows. Honorees are shown above. Keith Tabron is not pictured.
