On April 24-28, a local robotics team took on some of the planet’s most formidable FIRST Tech Challenge competitors. The Dayton-Cincinnati group of students, ranging from 7th to 11th grade, seized the opportunity, gave it everything they had, and never looked back.

The FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship Tournament was held at the Cobo Center and Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. A total of 128 elite FTC teams, seven of which were from Ohio, attended the tournament. Every team is made up of middle school and high school students with a passion for STEM and the determination to win.

Team 5029, PowerStackers, went 9-4 in all matches. They started off with winning 5 straight matches Wednesday into Thursday, and fought their way to the title of Division Finalists in the Edison Division. Along with Team 8645, Robotic Doges, and Team 7261, Omega Robotics, the three talented teams worked together to compete on the championship’s biggest stage, and the battle was nail biting to behold.

Ultimately, the brilliant opposing alliance, which consisted of Team 8644, The Brainstormers, Team 8393, BrainSTEM Robotics, and Team 4029, 2 Bits and a Byte, brought home the victory at the championships. The win was well deserved, but every team truly brought forth a valiant effort to the competition. Every contestant fought their hardest and it definitely showed.
