CINCINNATI—Cincinnati Opera will hold an open casting call for supernumerary roles for the company’s 2019 Summer Festival. Supernumerary or “super” roles are non-singing, non-speaking roles, much like extras in film and television. Supers will share the stage with internationally renowned artists and work with celebrated directors and conductors.

An information and casting session is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the Corbett Opera Center in Music Hall.

Eleven SUPERS are needed for the Cincinnati Opera Porgy & Bess:

  • Four African American adults to play residents of Catfish Row (dance experience preferred)
  • Six African American children ages 5-14 (3 boys & 3 girls), residents of Catfish Row

Supers are required to attend approximately 10-15 rehearsals and four performances between June 21–July 28. Daytime rehearsals may be scheduled. No experience is necessary, and all super positions are filled voluntarily.

Attending the casting call does not obligate a person to participate. Interested individuals can attend the casting call simply to learn more about supernumerary opportunities. For more information, please visit cincinnatiopera.org or email supers@cincinnatiopera.org.
