The Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio announced the 2019 Journey Award Honorees who will be recognized at this year’s Urban League Gala & Silent Auction on Saturday, September 14, at the Duke Energy Convention Center in downtown Cincinnati.
The Journey Awards recognizes those individuals who have graduated or benefitted from the many of the Urban League’s “Life Ready” programs. It is a means of honoring and congratulating those individuals who have utilized their trainings as a means to transform and improve their lives. This year’s honorees are:
- David Carter (Miami Valley Urban League) – Graduate of the SOAR (Solid Opportunities for Advancement and Retention)
- Steven Strader (Cincinnati ) – Graduate of the ACE (Advance Customer Service Education)
- Pat Bready – ( Special Recognition) Graduate of the African American Leadership Development Program (Class 1) and facilitator of the Urban Leader Institute for the past six years
- Waughney Yarrell – Business Development/Entrepreneurship Program – R business owner
- The One Westwood Group – This organization is working with the Urban League to transform its community with a focus on diversity and inclusion.
The Honorary Chairs for this year’s ULGSO Gala & Silent Auction are Richard and Kitty Rosenthal and Daman and Barbara Turner. This year’s theme is “Celebrating 70 Years of Transforming Lives. Guest entertainment for the evening will be national R & B recording artists, The Rude Boys, featuring Ohio’s own 2nd Wind Band. Originally from Cleveland, The Rude Boys were recently inducted into the R & B Hall of Fame. With other special treats and elegant touches throughout the evening, the 2019 Urban League Gala & Silent Auction will be a festive “Party with a Purpose.”
