Anita Lynn Brentley, Ph.D., who worked in community health programs, died in Cincinnati, Ohio, January 25, 2020. She was 59.
Dr. Brentley was born on June 22, 1960, in Middletown, Ohio, to Ebie and Johnsie Banks.
She grew up in Middletown and graduated from Middletown High School. She then attended and obtained a Masters of Education from Miami University along with a second Masters from Tulane University. She recently obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health from Walden University in 2019.
She worked for Cincinnati/Hamilton County Community Action Agency and then transitioned to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, initially within the trauma department as an injury prevention coordinator, then transferred to the Every Child Succeeds program and ultimately finished her career with the James M. Anderson Center for Health Systems Excellence at Children’s Hospital.
While Dr. Brentley began work at Cincinnati Children’s 20 years ago, she came to the Anderson Center three years ago as a community engagement specialist. Last year she moved into a lead role with the community health team. In her role, she led the team to new ways of communication and connection with families.
She was an active member with Cincinnati Chums Inc., along with being a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
She is survived by her husband, Thurmond Brentley, and her two sons, Cedric and Brian Brentley.
A Memorial Service is at Carmel Presbyterian Church, 3449 Reading Road in Cincinnati, this Saturday, February 1 at 1:30 p.m.
