Cincinnati’s oldest and most celebrated free Summer Jazz Concert Series, It’s Commonly Jazz, is not letting covid-19 stop the show or a 35th anniversary celebration of community coming together over jazz. This year, virtual watch parties are popping up all over to enjoy straight ahead jazz recorded live at the Seasongood Pavilion in Cincinnati. Over two dozen artists hit the stage to bring jazz that inspires, heals and brings pure joy.
“In 2020, it became abundantly clear we needed to improvise and take this series to the next level to keep it going” said Creative Founder and Promoter, Carolyn Wallace. “Our team and sponsors were all-in to orchestrate our shift to a virtual online series in the comfort and safety of your own backyard, deck, porch, living room or neighborhood spot.” Fifth Third Bank returned as our presenting sponsor for the 31st straight year. We added another dimension with Watch Party Boxes and 7 Principles Foundation Jazz Educator Awards to celebrate with our beloved jazz community.
The opening night features vibraphonist Erwin Stuckey and the Omega Band. Next up is Mambo Combo for the fusion of Latin-Afro jazz beats. The third night of jazz showcases the Jazz Alive Quartet featuring Saxophonist Eddie Bayard and JD Allen in a tribute to Joe Gaudio sponsored by Jazz Alive. The season finale for the 35th celebration is a swinging jazz night with the Michael Wade Octet.
The marketing and media team have created a memorable virtual experience at Itscommonlyjazz.com plus SWAG and ICJ Watch Party Boxes available for online ordering and pickup or shipping. The boxes have hosting tips, recipes, viewing tips and fun items to be safe and look good at your watch party. The basic box is $35 and deluxe boxes cost $75.
The jazz is streaming online at itscommonlyjazz.com every Thursday in August at 7 PM ET right into your homes and neighborhood for virtual watch parties and jazz spots. Get on Facebook to see and hear all that’s happening each week for the series plus post pictures of what you are doing at your watch party with the hashtag #ICJazz2020Virtually.
