New York, New York, — Introducing BREAST CANCER UNITED! We are a movement garnering the collective strength of over 60 leading breast cancer organizations, on a mission to eradicate breast cancer. We have joined forces, uniting as one, to show the world that breast cancer exists far beyond pink ribbon campaigns and the month of October. We know that together, we are stronger and our collective efforts will have a more effective impact in bringing attention and resources to our devastating disease.

As our first effort together, BREAST CANCER UNITED is inviting the world to put their breast foot forward and join us as we walk virtually on November 27 at 11a.m. to build Breast Cancer awareness, empower our community, and demand action. From New York to Germany to South Africa, hundreds of thousands of people impacted by breast cancer will walk virtually at home and socially distanced in their neighborhoods to take over Black Friday.

Male breast cancer Thriver Mathew Knowles will kick off the event in partnership with various organization leaders, entrepreneurs, Breastie gamechangers and changemakers to demonstrate the need to come together to make impactful change in both research and community.

Why do we need Breast Cancer United? Breast cancer is devastating, and no one is spared.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is the most common cancer in women both in developed and developing economies. In the U.S., it is estimated that in 2020, 276,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women and about 1,620 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in men. About 42,170 women in the U.S. are expected to die from breast cancer in 2020.

Why is this walk needed now more than ever?

Research recently published in JAMA shows that a significant amount of breast cancer screening is being missed and that cases are going undetected in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The BREAST CANCER UNITED Black Friday Takeover Unity Virtual Walk will help reignite the importance of early detection, self-examinations, screening, research and clinical trials.

To take a stance for eradicating breast cancer and creating an inclusive breast cancer community, join the Breast Cancer United movement and walk with us on November 27 at 11 a.m.  EST.  We will be airing the walk live on Facebook.com/BlackDoctor.org.

“We are blessed to have many organizations in our breast cancer ecosystem. We are coming together in unity because we believe that our work requires collaboration, partnership, shared resources and consistent action, where we can share knowledge and hold each other accountable towards reaching our common goal of eradicating breast cancer. Breast Cancer United is a collective stance that we’re here to work together on building community, research, and aggressive action. Black women are dying at a 42% higher rate than white women.  We need to stop this madness.” said Ricki Fairley, CEO of TOUCH, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance.

Whether you identify as a survivor, thriver, metathriver, previvor, high-risk, male breast cancer survivor, caregiver, Breastie, Baddie or a supporter — join the movement and help us take over Black Friday virtually around the world.
