Wash day is a long tedious task, as most women with natural hair know. Prior to pandemic times it was a one-hour endeavor but in the past year I have had to incorporate regular hair treatments into my regimen (see “How I saved my hair”). Wash day is now a two-to-three-hour event which can only be performed once per week. Between washes, I have “refresh day” which involves spraying my hair with water; detangling; and applying copious amounts of leave-in conditioner to my curls. This shorter process allows for more experimentation with new products. This week I tried a few products from Doctor Coily, a Black- and women-owned business that came highly recommend from a Facebook group for professional Black women with natural hair. Dr. San, the owner of Doctor Coily, is a member of the group. Since she dropped her line, the women are frequently posting their results from using her products. It has been amazing to watch the transformations. Thus, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and try it for refresh day. How I used the products for refresh day:
Step 1: Moisten hair with Hair Elixir, 24.99
The light, oil-based elixir smells like eucalyptus and easily replaced the careful task of applying the perfect amount water. It gave my curls a beautiful shine without allowing them to become sopping wet. Lastly, it did not stain my white coat which is a huge win!
Step 2: Spray hair with Noelaní Honey Hydration Leave-in conditioner, 24.99
The coconut water, aloe vera juice, and grapeseed oil mixture added another layer of moisture that clung to my curls to without making them heavy.
Step 3: Massage scalp and ends patches with Hair and Body Butter Cream Souffle, 21.75
After moistening my hair twice, my scalp and ends required a little more love. The souffle was the perfect offering. It also smells amazing.
Step 4: Detangle with fingers, style.
This process was faster than my usual routine. Another win! I am excited to see my results from using Doctor Coily products long term. I will keep you all posted. Keep winning and shining.
