Issac Smitherman becomes President of the University of Cincinnati Student Body

Smitherman is the second African American to serve in the history of the school in this position. Tyrone Yates was the first.

Issac is the son of the late Pamela Smitherman and the former Vice Mayor of Cincinnati, Christopher Smitherman. He grew up in North Avondale and attended North Avondale Montessori for his elementary education. He then went on to Walnut Hills High School, where he was heavily involved in academic, the theater and music programs and graduated with honors.

During his junior and senior years, he served as President of Top Teens of America, a program sponsored by the Top Ladies of Distinction, Cincinnati Chapter. He was accepted into the University of Cincinnati’s five year program to study Environmental Engineering as a Darwin T. Turner Scholar. He is serving as a Head Resident Advisor. During his prior years at UC, he served as Senator at Large of the Undergraduate Student Government, where he was Co-Chair of Gov. Relations. He will graduate May 2023.

Immediately after the announcement of his win, Issac was ecstatic when the UC News Record asked him how he felt. “Feeling good, feeling great,” Issac said, standing adjacent to the stage’s glowing lights. Issac praised the election process itself, saying it was on of the finest in recent memory.
