CANTON, OH – Central State Marauders opened its football season by sweeping the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic with a resounding win over Winston-Salem State 41 to 21.

This is the first win for CSU head coach Kevin Porter. A crowd of 13,989 filled Tom Benson Stadium to watch the CIAA Division II teams play.

The Marauders dominated the game from the first quarter although Winston-Salem State Rams tried to tie things up during the second quarter. But their try was not enough to keep up with the advancing Marauders. Once the game was tied the Marauders took advantage of a fumble and never looked back.

In a comment to HBCU GameDay, Porter said the kids were very happy at Central State University. He noted that the team has traveled a long road and it was great to be on the national stage and get it done.

Despite its win, Central State is now looking to its next game against Lincoln University.
