Controversial New York GOP Rep. George Santos has been hit with a 13-count indictment by federal prosecutors.
The charges include seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives.
Santos, 34, was arrested Wednesday morning, and is currently in custody.
His arraignment was set for Wednesday afternoon in federal court on Long Island, New York.
Voters elected Santos to represent New York’s 3rd Congressional District in November.
However, his time in congress has been marked in controversy. Mostly because media outlets revealed that he had fabricated almost every aspect of his personal and professional history.
Nevertheless, Santos has not resigned from Congress, despite pressure from numerous New York GOP lawmakers.
