This is my first sauvignon Blanc article for the Cincinnati Herald, and I created a haul of my favorites.
Yes, I drink sauvignon Blanc on occasions predominantly from New Zealand. What I like about it is the high acidity, grapefruit, tropical banana, and guava tastes in some of the brands. Sauvignon Blanc is a friend of seafood, fish, and sushi rolls. A great dry white wine for the hot summer weather and a nice wine for beginner wine drinkers.
Grey Wacke 2020: A taste of ripe golden peaches, honeydew melon, nectarines, passionfruit, ripe banana, a splash of cassis, and lime zest. Marlborough sauvignon Blanc with a crisp succulent finish. The other vintages of this wine are equally well-made and delicious.
I really love the guava and banana finish of the wine. Terrific with coconut shrimp and fried clams.
Oyster Bay: Stunning tastes of tropical fruits, and bright grapefruit rind notes, with a refreshing zesty zippy finish. Marlborough vineyards are famous for introducing elegant, cool climate New Zealand wines to the world. Bring out that cornmeal and fry some fish for this wine, the high acidity balances out the fried aspect. This wine is a value and easily found in the retail markets.
Love Block: Harvested in the cool Marlborough mornings from certified-organic Woolshed vineyard and made in vessels such as concrete eggs, amphorae and neutral oak barrels. Pineapple, tropical fruit and a sweet basil followed by ripe peach on the palate. Organic, vegan friendly and from a single vineyard. Pairs with pasta salad and crab dip with toasted herb bread. Easily found in the retail market and a great value.
Giesen Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc: Late harvest is wine that is made from grapes left on the vine for longer than usual. The grapes end up looking more like raisins, with concentrated sugars and flavors.
Hand-picked and stomped the traditional way by barefoot participants to release the juices. This wine has won an incredible number of awards and is over the moon delicious. Tastes of fruit leather, honeycomb, dried apricots, banana chips, and a lively citrus. Cheesecake pairs well with this elegant dessert wine. Giesen has a marvelous portfolio of wine.

I drink Sauvignon Blanc frequently.
But didn’t know it mainly came from New Zealand.
OMG I wasn’t reading the label.
I bet I am not the only one. Learning much from Ms Wanda’s articles.
