St‑Germain is a French liqueur made with fresh elderflowers, hand-picked once a year in late spring. Every bottle of St‑Germain contains up to 1,000 of the very best elderflower blossoms. St‑Germain gets its golden hue from pollen and contains no artificial coloring or flavoring. Blended with neutral grain spirits, beet sugar, and a dash of brandy from the Cognac region of France.
Sweet and tastes of honey, sultanas, fresh apricots, a powerful bouquet of fresh elderflowers, and 20% ABV. The tiny flowers produce a refined liqueur to drink alone or in a dignified cocktail. The gorgeous bottle is faceted with a stunning golden cap, makes a lovely gift. Found in quality grocers, this exquisite product is without preservatives, store the remainder in the fridge for a short period.
The inspiration for this article
Came from my love of dance and admiration for the achievements of black people in America. In Chicago a dance craze called’ Steppin” is a complete community and artform. It is beautiful, elegant, polished, precise, and legendary. Dancers are dressed to the nine and on the dance floor making it happen old school. There are competitions for top prizes and can be watched on YouTube.
Stepping in Chicago goes back to the late 1940s and originally called Bopping, it evolved with soul music, and while strong in other parts of the US. However, its dynamic roots began in the Chicago area. The younger generation has picked up on it and teaches it masterfully. The liqueur isn’t affiliated with the Steppin dance or dancers.
Pairing the two together in a stunning cocktail “The Black Royalty Cocktail”
Here is what you’ll need to make the cocktail:
- A large wine glass
- ST-Germain liqueur
- Prosecco
- Fresh or frozen blackberries
Instructions:
- First add 4 blackberries into the glass
- Pour the glass half full of St‑Germain liqueur
- Pour to the fill line with prosecco
- Stir quickly to blend and enjoy
I don’t recommend any substitutions as its only three ingredients.
