Cincinnati has a new reason to celebrate. Devean Bush, a proud 2022 graduate of the Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy (CCPA), has just been elected as the International Second Vice President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., one of the nation’s historic Black Greek-letter organizations.

At only 20 years old and now entering his junior year at Jackson State University in Mississippi, Bush secured this national leadership position during the fraternity’s 2025 International Conclave held in Tampa, Florida. His election marks a milestone for both his family and his hometown Cincinnati.

The International Second Vice President is the highest-ranking collegiate officer in the entire organization. That means Devean represents undergraduate members of Phi Beta Sigma from across the globe from the U.S. to Africa and the Caribbean giving voice to thousands of college brothers, shaping fraternity policy, and helping lead service initiatives, national programs, and campus outreach.

From the West End streets of Cincinnati to the historic campus of Jackson State, Bush has always stood out. Teachers at CCPA remember him as a focused student with a heart for service and leadership. Those qualities have only grown during his time in college, where he has become a standout leader in the fraternity’s Alpha Beta Chapter.

“He’s always been a young man of integrity, drive, and compassion,” said one of his former teachers John Brown. “Seeing him rise to this level doesn’t surprise us; it makes us proud.”

Phi Beta Sigma’s 2025 Conclave theme, “Dream Big. Act Bold. Always Believe.” couldn’t be more fitting for Bush’s journey. In Tampa, surrounded by thousands of fraternity brothers, alumni, and international delegates, Bush campaigned with a message of unity, empowerment, and leadership with authenticity.

“I show up, I do the work, and I make sure no brother feels overlooked or unheard,” Devean said during his campaign. That message clearly resonated.

As International Second Vice President, Bush will spend the next two years traveling, attending leadership summits, mentoring younger brothers, and influencing national fraternity policies all while maintaining his academic excellence at Jackson State.
