Nero d’Avalo is a delicious dry red Italian wine from Sicily, and one of my favorites. Since the late 1970s winemakers experimented with Nero d’Avalo to elevate its status. Today it is the Prince of Sicilian wines.

Tenuta Navarra BATTICHIÈ the Founder’s Reserve DOC. The owner of Tenuta Navarra is Totò Navarra. His son, Salvatore Navarra, and grandson, Totò Navarra Jr, are now involved in managing the business.

Born from the historic vineyard of Tenute Navarra, located in Contrada Judeca. Aged in new French oak barrels for 12 months. The aging is completed in bottles for 6-8 months before its commercial release. Very delicious with tobacco smoke and cloves on the nose. Tastes of dried red fruit and baking spices, bold smooth tannins, and medium acidity.

Fina Bausa Sicilia DOC was founded in 2005 by Bruno Fina and wife Mariella.

Located in Masalla, Sicily near Trapani and Erice.

This Nero d’ Avalo is delicious and much attention is paid to detail. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 18 months. Intense ruby red color, bouquet of black cherries, violets, nutmeg, clove, and hints of cigar smoke. Mouth expressions of silky tannins, high acidity, medium-bodied, black currant, chocolate, black licorice, and a long smoky finish.

Nero d’ Avalo is an amazing dry red wine and the perfect backdrop for pizza.

I really enjoy frozen pizza because I can add my own toppings; roasted eggplant, goat cheese, turkey pepperoni, and grilled Italian peppers. Also, a great pairing with bean stews, sausages, red cabbage, and steak sandwiches. This can be a flashy fun time of year, be sure to include a bottle of Nero d’ Avalo.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas
